Did You Know...

A racing pigeon can fly at three weeks of age and start racing as young as three months old. On average a flyer will start taking their birds on short flys from the loft of appropriately 5 to 20 km and as their birds show they are ready the tossing of the pigeons will increase to as far as one likes prior to the first race, 50km to 150km in most cases. Once racing begins its off to the races for the birds, some fanicer may split their flock into teams to send on alternative weeks, others may send the lot to the first few and some just pick the ones they feel are ready to go that weekend. In most cases the birds not going to the weekends racing will be crated up and taken on a toss to keep them fit and ready for their next race.

We breed our race teams to fly up to and even further then 1300km. Most of the time when the pigeons are taken away to be released they will be home in their lofts before the transporter has made it home, at speeds up to and beyound 120km per hour, with a cruising speed of 80km per hour without assistance (wind).
